Jolanta Johnsson

"The landscape, the richness of nature, its beauty have always inspired me. Nature is the stage on which human life unfolds. We see the landscape every day as soon as we open our eyes from sleep.


I paint the landscape with the human being in mind. Nature exists objectively, but as an artist I have complete freedom for subjective interpretations. In my artistic search, I let my feelings guide me. I look for order and logic in the landscape. Its small elements (on our human scale) appear to me as monumental objects that endure through time, while in reality they pass with the seasons. My abstract compositions are an expression of my helplessness in the face of the vastness, diversity, and richness of nature. In the arrangement of simple forms, I seek expression in order to convey at least part of my admiration for the landscape.


In the figurative paintings, I show people in abstract spaces. I search for artistic means to give these spaces depth. I want to tell the story of a man who is on his way. And his journey is his life. We live and wander through the landscape. We are gifted with the landscape.”

Education

• 1984-1989 Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Faculty of Graphic Arts, studio of Prof. Halina Chrostowska and Prof. Rafał Strent, painting studio of Prof. Jerzy Tchórzewski. 

• 2012 - PhD in Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. 
Teaching at the European Faculty of Arts of the Vistula Academy of Finance and Business, studio of printmaking and design.
