Karolina Świdecka

Karolina Świdecka was born and works in Kraków. In 2001, she graduated with distinction from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, where she studied painting under Prof. Adam Wsiołkowski and drawing under Prof. Janusz Orbitowski.

Beginning in 2002, in collaboration with the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków, she created a series of 39 portraits of prominent figures connected with the city, including Anna Dymna, Grzegorz Turnau, Czesław Miłosz, Jan Nowicki and Krzysztof Penderecki.

Over time, her painting shifted towards landscape. In the series “A Very Long July”, she depicts forgotten holiday resorts that evoke memories of childhood and summers past. These places were created for people, although human figures rarely appear in them. Their presence is suggested by objects left behind: deckchairs, balls and strings of lights. These are not realistic depictions of landscape, but images preserved in memory.
